To transform digital literacy and mental health education in US schools, so every student has the knowledge required to critique, counter, and cope with general and race-related media and technologies.
Built to provide mental health support and train students in digital and AI literacy.
CRITmetic exists because adolescents face challenges such as racist disinformation, misinformation, algorithmic biases, computational propaganda, conspiracy theories, and biased digital representations of Black, Indigenous and people of color. Unfortunately, current digital literacy learning opportunities fail to address race and racism. CRITmetic aims to fill that gap. CRITmetic was co-created by Black and Latine adolescents alongside the CELDTech research team led by Dr. Brendesha Tynes.
The CRITmetic team consists of 44 members, including the PI, co-investigators, K-12 student co-designers, research assistants, program and project specialists, a project coordinator, a product director, development sub-team members, a clinical psychologist and a psychiatric social worker. The team was assembled in 2023 with members added through 2026.
We connect research with real-world application.
